healthcare law. a reboot of sorts after weeks and weeks of really bad p.r. the president pumped up what he called obamacare successes. he spoke at the white house part of it live here on fox news channel, surrounded by people he says are benefiting from the new law. his aides say it's an effort to move past the problems with the enrollment web site which the feds say they have dramatically improved. the white house says around a million people visited healthcare.gov just yesterday, and if the vast majority did not have any problems. the president says that is proof the law is now working. >> after just the first month, despite all the problems in the roll-out, half a million people across the country are poised to gain healthcare coverage through market places and medicaid beginning on january 1st. some for the very first time. we know that. half a million people. >> and as the president tries to move focus from the web site itself and back to the basic office the healthcare law, republican leaders are doing the same, and attacking the law itself. >> it's not just a broken web site. this b

in the healthcare website. as tara mergener reports, there are still plenty of challenges ahead. >> reporter: the frantic work to fix the government's healthcare website is starting to pay off. president obama's technology troubleshooters say healthcare.gov can now handle 50,000 users at that time a time, or up to 800,000 each day. advisor jeffrey zion said the site now works most of the time for most users. >> we executed hundreds of software fixes, and hardware upgrades. and the site is now stable and operating at its intended capacity, with greatly improved performance. >> reporter: the department of health and human services said system failures have fallen from 6% in october to less than 1%. and responses have declined from 8 minutes to less than one. the obama administration had promised the fixes by this past weekend. congress is watching closely, because the success or failure of healthcare reform is expected to be a critical factor in next year's midterm elections. already the botched rollout has put enrollment rates far below white house targets. consumers now have just a few weeks

big test today since the obama administration said that it met its deadline to make healthcare.gov work smoothly for the vast majority of shoppers. trouble since the site's debut in october has cut into enroll. s. we learned today that 100,000 in ngnember for a total of more than 206,000 so far, but that is a million short of the enrollees projected. wyatt andrews has been checking into the web site today. wyatt? >> reporter: scott, the administration says that 375,000 people tried to shop on healthcare.gov and that was officials called that a strong sign of interest but, again, that high a number created some problems. when june miles-mays tried to sign up for obamacare at a miami health center, the web site put her on hold. the white house told us healthcare got gov is supposed to work smoothly for a vast maority of users by the end of november and 50,000 consumers should be able to simultaneously shop for coverage. yesterday people were put into a new cue basically a waiting room after only 35,000 customers clicked on to the site according to the "washington post". then there was this a screen of nonsense and question marks that popped up in the middle of the day after selecting apply for coverage. the white house isn't impressed with the improvements. >> the president believes the site has been significantly improved and that the teams in place have worked 24/7 for weeks now to make those improvements including significant improvements that were made over the weekend. but the work is not done. >> another huge problem is that about one-third of consumers who actually signed up for coverage have issues with their applications. >> can you image, you think you sign up, you go to get coverage because you need healthcare, you go there and you find out that in fact you haven't been signed up. that is a huge
